Description:

The LM7915 is a 15V negative voltage regulator from the LM79XX series. It provides a fixed -15V output with a peak output current of 2.2A and an average output current of up to 1A. The IC is designed in a TO-220 package, allowing it to handle higher currents efficiently while dissipating heat effectively.

The LM7915 requires minimal external components, such as two filter capacitors (input and output), which stabilize the voltage output. The capacitors should be placed close to the IC, using solid tantalum or electrolytic types. The IC is equipped with thermal overload protection and short-circuit current limiting to ensure durability and safeguard the device during adverse operating conditions.

To achieve the maximum load current, a heat sink is essential, especially for higher current outputs of up to 1.5A. The input voltage should always be 2V to 3V higher than the output voltage to maintain a stable -15V output.
